About Medication

What To Expect

You will be seen in a comfortable office where you will receive discrete individualized attention and your confidential health information will be secure and protected.
New patients are evaluated during a 45 minute to one hour psychiatric interview. Initial diagnostic impressions and treatment considerations are discussed at the end of this meeting. A second visit is scheduled within one to three weeks of the first evaluation. Close monitoring of your progress and ongoing risk assessment is an essential part of optimal care. Subsequent follow-up appointments are scheduled based on individual needs. The time between visits is extended once you begin to feel better.

Fees And Insurance

I offer care tailored to the individualized needs of each patient. All other patients are required to pay the full fee. If you require any information on fees please contact the hospital.
Payment is due in full at the time services are rendered. Payment can be made by cash or card (Visa, MasterCard). Patients are responsible for promptly meeting at reserved appointment times. Late cancellations (within 48 hours prior to consultation) and missed sessions are charged at $10 and $20 respectively.

Availability

I am only available outside of scheduled appointment times for important hospital issues. Routine questions and medication adjustments are best made during a regular scheduled session when your concerns will be fully explored.
Calls from patients who do not attend regular visits create a large daily burden of uncompensated work and will not be permitted. In order to maintain active patient status and receive medication refills, patients are expected to regularly schedule and keep appointments as medically necessary and determined by the practice.

More thoughts on medication

If medication appears to be an option as an adjunct to living better, Dr Shelly Iskandar takes great care in finding exactly which medication will best assist you. It is imperative to avoid negative side effects and any over-medicating. Luckily we have more medications available in psychiatry than ever before, many with fewer side effects than their predecessors.

Most often, after getting to know your situation, Dr Shelly will describe in detail which medications might help, and why. He will provide you with objective information regarding a specific medication, answering any questions or doubts that you have along the way. At this point, your personal preferences will largely guide the final decision.

Medication requires a partnership between the individual and the clinician. Dr Shelly will provide a detailed treatment plan of care, incorporating your views and attitudes, your history with medication, and your overall health. The plan will describe the purpose, the levels, and the expected outcomes. The plan will include expectations for your participation and methods to communicate your status, any unexpected side effects, and the capacity to adjust the plan promptly.
